Topinka also is linked to the Republicans' choice to nominate ultraconservative firebrand Alan Keyes as a replacement for Jack Ryan in the Senate race, after Ryan's infamous sex scandal derailed his candidacy.

"She's still wounded from that," Rauschenberger said.

I was surprised that Rauschenberger said that. Most newspapers during the senate election reported that he and Dave Syverson were the ones pushing for an Alan Keyes nomination. What's the real story?
